With the prices you see posted on the completed heritage auction make sure you deduct 17.5% from that price.

Also from buying some items from heritage I've noticed they tend to get about 10-15% higher bids than ebay. That's due to their reputation. People know they are getting a solid coin so they'll pay that little extra for piece of mind.

I never do that.

I buy plenty of coins on HA and my cost for the coin is the total price. I don't care how Heritage splits the money with the seller. If I win an auction and pay $1000 total (including coin + buyer's fee + shipping) and want to make 25%, I offer the coin for $1250, not something less.

Just my 2-cents...

Guides are guides, nothing but reference material. As mentioned previously, auction history is a real good indicator for the market, just don't go too far back. Another source I use is coinsociety.com. it includes ebay sales as well.

Eventually, and thanks to a family like the CCF, you begin to recognize what's what and grow from there.

If you'd like an easy way to pull up all that great Heritage history, along with other auction results (eBay, Great Collections, Stacks Bowers, David Lawrence, etc) you can use this link.

http://www.PCGS.com/AuctionPrices/default.aspx

And although it's a PCGS site, it's not just results for PCGS coins.

You can drill down to specific grades or other attributes. You can change the way it's sorted. You can also copy the results into a spreadsheet and filter them any way you choose.

Here's a direct link to an example page. How about the auction results for all 1913-D Type 1 Buffalo nickels in MS66

http://www.PCGS.com/auctionprices/d...=ms&c=83&g=0

How about that 1859 Indian Head cent in AU55 that you still need for your type set?

http://www.PCGS.com/auctionprices/d...=ms&c=44&g=0

By the way, those PCGS numbers in the far left column, they're hyperlinked. They'll take you right to the CoinFacts page for the coin you're looking at. And since CoinFacts is now free you'll want to have a good look around.
