Possible 5 Franc Lugano Counterfeit

swamperbob Pillar of the Community United States 5362 Posts	Posted 02/03/2016 7:26 pm I have seen many of the same type posted on ebay that were created in China. The presence of the arc between the dentils and the edge at 5 o'clock on the date side looks to me like a typical forgery. I am also put off by the soft/ missing detail and what appears to be irregular dentils. I also believe that the way the light reflects from the raised rim at the top of the coin (brightly illuminated) on both sides - appears to display a rounded corner. Report this Post to the Staff

swamperbob Pillar of the Community United States 5362 Posts	Posted 02/04/2016 5:34 pm If the coin is like the others I have seen personally - it is a cast coin driven through a tapered ring die. The edges (corners) of the coin require grinding and the circumference is often ground to remove the split top and split ends on the reeds. Report this Post to the Staff
