Do 1983 Cents Have Deeper Grooves In The Branch?

I am half way through box #3 of cents this month and have noticed that the 1983 cents have the grooves still quite visible on the main branch. The other years tend to be worn off. Looking at examples on C&C you can see that later years shown there don't seem to have as deep a line. Is it likely just the die was cut differently this year?
