My short list of coins to collect is basically down to some classic proof coins that I have put off purchasing due to their cost. One of those is a proof Two-Cent Piece that I hoping to find at the big coin show this year in PR64 for around $1000.

Well, I was browsing on ebay last night and saw a nice example in PR65 with a Buy it Now price of $1060. It also had the "Make an Offer" option, so I went ahead and offered $1000. Numismedia puts it at $1460 in for RB (red brown) color, which this one is, so I think I made out pretty well. I mean, I know that Numismedia prices are high retail, but this is nearly 30% off that price.

Anyway, I hope to have it in hand in a few days, but the seller's pictures are probably better than I will be able to take on my own. His description said, "Good mirrors and nearly full red. Very few marks."

Let me know what you think!

Thanks! I'm really hoping the "mirrors" look better in hand than in the pictures (proof coins are notoriously hard to photograph), but even if they don't it's a fine looking coin.

2 cent proofs always look nice. I guess I am a sucker for the shield obverse. This is pricier than I would ever be able to afford, it's nice to live through others :)

Very nice coin

w00t! Just got the coin in the mail. The seller's pics showed the details really well, but didn't capture the reflectivity of the coin at all. Here are some updated photos:
