The date on the Buffalo nickel stood out from its surroundings, and was about the first thing worn away. You will see lots of auctions or sales for dateless Buffalo nickels. Even in that state they do have value. Follow the link to the CCF page for Buffalo nickels to see how they were when originally minted. The CCF page shows a 1913 type 1. You have a type 2 that has the mint mark area and Five Cents recessed on the reverse.

The date on Buffalo nickels sits higher than the bust of the Indian so it wears out first. Very common. I'm sure someone has the better terminology to explain, but that's the gist of it.
Rest in Peace

The date on dateless Buffalos can be restored with a mild acid made for that purpose. However, unless you have at least 20-30 the cost of that liquid is more than the value a few restored Buffalos.

The value of restored Buffalos is very low, even for scarce dates, and should ALWAYS be listed as restored date.
