Ancients are not my thing but in amongst a lot of old coins including Roman there are those I believe are most certainly real. I am not sure however about the following ones - they are all larger than the others I have at around 20mm-30mm. My knowledge of spotting fakes goes about as far as whether they have WRL written on them!! Edited by Coinaholic73 02/07/2016 12:25 pm

All appear to be Byzantine.

I personally have no hesitation in stating that the two at left look good. I believe they are a Constantine X follis (upper left) and an anonymous issue follis (lower left). Echizento will be along to confirm and to offer his expert opinion on the bunch.

The only one that looks a little doubtful is the top right the Anastatius. All the others look good. Top left Constantine X, Bottom left, looks like a Class A2 Anonymous folles of Basil II & Constantine VIII, and the bottom right looks like a half folles of Justinian I.

Thanks for your help - it seems I need to educate myself on ancients! Those coins were in this lot. Is there anything here that is remotely screaming fake to you?

Hard to say too many coins to look at at once.

I am particularly intrigued by these, and looking forward to close-ups with flips sides shown.

That is a super lot! I see a couple of really nice radiates (maybe Tetricus?) in the first pic; also that turtle coin Bob pointed out could be something really special. Looking forward to close-ups Also, none of these appear to be fake outright. Perhaps a few barbaric imitations, but those are collectible in their own right.

I'm going to take a guess that what we see in this one may be a crown of Isis, and that it may turn out to be a Cleopatra III/Ptolemy IX Soter joint issue from Kyrene, c. 116 - 110BC. I could be way off base, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

About 100 coins in this lot.
A lot of effort for a dealer to invest his time to identify them all, where his time may be better spent elsewhere.
This is where a collector can buy a bargain, provided he is able to identify them all, but lots of time needed. This is the sort of worn ancients lot that I like.
Love to have them in hand. A real challenge for me to identify them all. Some would take less than an hour, I would need months, but lots of fun, and lots to learn along the way!
Fully identified, they would be valued at lots more.
Coinaholic73: Take months and patience. You will end up learning a lot about ancients. What you can't identify, post individual coin pictures. Refer also to wildwinds, vcoins, zeno.ru, and Google images.

Quote: The wood grain? Haha! Ok, here are the ones requested for a closer look. I actually think the one with the H on is a lead seal or token perhaps.

And before I hit the sack ( it's very late here!) these are close ups of some of the smaller coins which have better detail

The upper and lower left appear to be Indo-Sassanian, from the Gupta empire circa 11th century. I believe the upper center is Kushan.
