If this isn't allowed let me know please.

I have an opportunity to purchase a 1901o PCGS graded MS65 Morgan silver dollar. Asking price in $175.00. Red Book puts it at $200 but was advised not to rely on RedBook for pricing. Is this even in the right price range?

I do plan on getting PCGS number off coin slab and looking it up 1st. Make sure it not faked.

I have never spent that much on one coin and just wanted some input before I made my decision.

Well, fwiw, the 2016 Coin Digest shows $215 for a ms-65. Searching ebay sold listings for a PCGS ms-65 shows a range of $182 to $227 so $175 does not sound bad at all.

online at Collectors Corner, I see a 1901-O MS65 ranging from $163 to $280 with a several below $190 and a really well toned example (dark and not appealing to me) listing for $550

EDIT - found other listings and corrected the price range

My question would be: Is it a solid 65 or an overgraded 64? If it's a solid 65 then the price is very good but if it's a 64+ the price is double what it's worth. Without seeing it there's no way to answer your question. This PCGS MS64+ sold for $73 as an example: http://www.greatcollections.com/Coi...r-PCGS-MS-64

Eye appeal is important for a coin like this.

The price depends on the coin. As BH1964 noted, is it a solid 65 with the eye appeal expected for that grade?
Rest in Peace

Eye appeal and where the abrasions are seen makes a big difference in final value.
