Here's another British Commonwealth coinage discussion section. It is about the coins of the South African Republic, which later became the Colony of Transvaal between 1902 & 1910,& the Province of Transvaal from 1910 to 1994.The first coins of the South African Republic was the extremely rare 1874 1 Pond coin, which was struck at Heaton's Mint,
Birmingham,England. The 1874 1 Pond coin is known as the 'Burgerspond',
because it was issued during the presidency of President T.F. Burgers.
This coin comes in 2 types - the 'Coarse Beard' & 'Fine Beard' types.
The next series of coins for the South African Republic is the issue of 1892-1900 under President S.J.P. (Paul) Kruger (1883-1902).The final coin of the South African Republic is also extremely rare. This is the 1902 Veld Pond, which was struck at an emergency mint at Pilgrim's Rest.

Another rare South African Republican coin is the 1898 Kruger 3d.,which was struck only in gold. There were 215 examples struck. This coin is known as the Sammie Marks Tickey. There were jeweller's copies struck at the same time, but the jeweller's copies do not have the dots
after the 'Z.A.R.' monogram at the top of the coin. The jeweller's copies were also struck in 22 Carat gold, just like the real Sammie Marks Tickies.I have got one of the jeweller's copies.

Aidan.
