I'm seeing more and more coins like this on ebay with a seller showing a misleading picture of a nice coin pulled from the PCGS site claiming "Coin detail information and example images provided courtesy of Professional Coin Grading Service." Of course, the coin you get is nothing like what is shown in the pic. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1959-1C-DC-...22000206396?Does this conform to ebay's rules?

Seems fraudulent to me. Posted photos should represent the actual item for sale.

ebay rules: Stock photos can only be used for brand-new items
Stock photos may no longer be used as the primary photo for a used item listing. Catalog images are acceptable, but not as the primary photo for used items; exceptions are the Books, Movies, Music, and Video Game categories. Catalog images for video game consoles, however, must adhere to the new requirement. This is a deficiency for coins (really all collectibles) that needs to be corrected. Is a proof coin "brand new?" Technically the seller is not breaking ebay's rules.

Go-Rebels, according to ebay's Stamps, currency, and coins policy (under Raw coins): "The listing includes photos of the front and back of the coin being sold, and you are authorized to use the photos. Stock photos and images that are dark, out of focus, edited, or misleading aren't allowed." and "Photos or scans of coins in holders from a non-approved grading company cannot show a grade. The grade must be completely obscured and unreadable."

ebay inserts those photos automatically when you select specific coins for sale. Ironic that their own software violates their rules. I always delete the stock photos ebay inserts in my listings.

Is a 1959 Minted Coin really new? Or is it "just like new"?
Our US Language has many meanings and this is one example where a Seller takes the meaning too far ..... Very descriptive!

Buying on ebay without READING the full description will often lead to problems.

The description info is from PCGS. ebay's software allows that. The only thing I can find him in violation of is using a slab not allowed by ebay to display a grade without blurring or removing that info from the slab. As always, caveat emptor....

ebay coin policy. A coin graded by a non-approved grading company can be listed, but the numeric grade can't be included in the title, description, or item specifics. You can't include an image of the coin in its graded holder if that image shows a grade that is not completely obscured and unreadable on the photo. But, it you put it in a 2x2, you can write any grade you want. No mention of that in current coin policy.

Quote: I think the use of a stock photo is done in a misleading way If you're speaking of the two pictures of the coin not in the slab I can see your point but anyone with eyes can tell that those pictures are not of the same coin in the slab. Now that being said, I certainly see your point.

Not error by TPG, obvious error by seller. This guy is a known self-slabber and everything is horribly overgraded. Off the cuff nutjob too, just look at the responses given to neutrals and negatives calling out his scam.
