Hi there,

Just a question about X6 $100 that I have from 1988
with Falsification stamp on the back (written in light red, below IN GOD WE TRUST, see picture (click for Zoom +)

Legal for "collection" ?
Does it exist value/quotation for this items ?

Thank you

I would be very nervous about handling something like that. You're right to get advice on it, but by posting here you'll get some answers to your question.

Since you are in France, you need to determine whether French laws prohibit possession of counterfeit foreign currency.

There are people who collect current counterfeit notes but it is an underground market and they are difficult to trade because you cannot openly market them.

As an example, Operation Bernhard counterfeits of Bank of England notes are widely collected mainly because of their historical significance. They may be confiscated in the UK, however.

I understand, thanks a lot for your answers, these notes were in a security box,
the better is to destroy them.

Best advice is to ask the French authorities regarding possession of counterfeit currency. However, this particular note may NOT be counterfeit-- just altered. Remember there is a difference between counterfeit and "altered for deception" purposes. Might even check with the U.S. Embassy and ask them. They may provide an avenue for you have it documented as AUTHENTIC but altered. There may or may not be a representative of the U.S. Secret Service on staff at the Embassy. Now, under French law would that make it counterfeit? don't know the answer but worth the effort for $100. Problem is U.S. currency without serial numbers are a real problem.
I'd try the U.S. Embassy and ask their recommendations and then if appropriate turn it in to the French.
