I just became aware of this unusual Presidential dollar with an aluminum outer ring and a quote from the Presidential oath of office. I was wondering if others have added it to their Presidential collections. From what I can gather it was only available at the respective mint and that production was very small.

Also, take a look at this auction (thread below). Does this REALLY look like MS-64? I appreciate your input. Jack

I'm guessing it would be tough to find 1000 collectors who wanted one of these. I also think that with that mintage you would be able to have them avoid there trip through Bag Mark City on their way to ANACS.

MS-64 is wishful thinking as it looks like this one stopped for lunch in Bag Mark City.

Not too many token collectors bother sending Encased Coins to third party grading services, unless there's a marketing / promotional scheme behind it. My guess would be that you could purchase the encased Presidential dollars raw for just a few bucks from organizations such as Encased Collectors International.

Captainrich -It's good to hear from you again. Exactly as I thought. It looks like something that HSN, or one of the stupid TV coin sellers, put together. An attempt to imply limited production and/or rarity. I'm inclined to put it in the category with colorized $2 bills.

It seems we all agree on the (supposed) MS 64 (NOT a particularly tough call). You think that a different coin (other than the real MS 64) was placed in that slab? ANACS surely wouldn't risk their reputation (such as it is) on something like that.

Moxking - I'm still laughing - "hard to find 1000", "...stopped for lunch in Bag Mark City." .

Thanks to all. Jack

Maybe ANACS was grading the aluminum encasement surrounding the coin and not the coin itself. You know, the same way token collectors grade counterstamped coins based on the condition of the stamped impression.
