I just thought this was too cool not to share. I don't normally buy these stock certificates, but this was an exception. Here is the story behind this piece:

"The owner of this 1919 issued stock certificate was The Dollar Savings Bank, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The vignette is of Prince, who was the pet of the president of the bank in the 1890s, T.H. Given. Blind embossed stamps for both banks are at bottom center on this stock certificate printed by the ABNCo"

I've never seen someone use a vignette of their pet! Really neat piece.

I like it. Especially with the revenue stamps! (I am an old but burned out stamp collector)

I would've thought that this would better fit in the US Paper Money forum where the paper money gurus would be more likely to appreciate this. The Staff knows best though.

Sometimes it's impossible to pass up something neat and unusual, even if it isn't part of your ' normal' collection. I'm a dog guy, so I can easily see the attraction of this piece.

Thanks guys. Sometimes I should probably stay away from Heritage live auctions. The temptation is too great.

Great Stock Certificate, Wheatback!

If you're interested in adding additional numismatic items featuring Prince the dog, the Farmers Deposit Bank also issued a number of aluminum tokens to promote the opening of new savings accounts. The tokens are known in seven different denominations, including: 1/2 cent, 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, and a dollar. The quarter, half-dollar and dollar denominations are the rarest varieties (I'm still missing the dollar token in my collection).

I scanned the half-dollar token, since it's the largest one I have featuring the dog (35mm):
