The "195" is in a fixed position, the "2" not so. Possible varieties - Reverse: wide or narrow date high or low "2" design or no design between the "5" and "2" doubling of the "2", top inside loop Obverse: Double"HP" and"REX" ****Editing to add: Minor include various die cracks and a "Hearing Aid" clash mark in the King's ear. https://goccf.com/t/113833 This thread contains excellent illustrations of the double HP and other examples: https://goccf.com/t/232673Here would be an example of a Narrow date, Zoell J454a. It has one slash in the upper area between the "5" and "2" so I think that's considered as having a design. Some of my 50c collection came from a very old album, undisturbed since the late 50s however some do exhibit classic indications of once having been a working coin. Very nice SilverDon! I have to wonder how many double HPs go completely unnoticed in 50 cent pieces. I have spent the last little while gawking at this one. I had identified it as a wide date and it's a lower "2" but I'm still not sure. Happens to be another rotated die, not much, about 15%. *Yes I think a wide date, low "2". **No, yes, no, the "2" is too far from the hoof.

Check out the tool marks in and around the ring. Some hard die polishing going on.

Your photos are just fine Torgemco. Of the two, did you notice the difference in the space between the "5" and the "2". The narrow space and the "2" further from then hoof makes the first one you posted a "narrow date", the next one is a "wide date".

Here's a picture of a 1952 date with no design between the 5 & 2. Cheers, Bill

Thanks for that photo Bill! Indeed, nothing whatsoever in that space between the 5 and 2. The next best that I have is one little chip which seems to be the most common.
As always, I appreciate everyone's contributions in giving ode to the multitude of varieties of the 50c!

Got around to shooting one of my 52's. I have another one somewhere I will shoot when I find it. I think this is the same as SilverDons except it doesn't have a double HP. Wide Date High 2 (Please correct if I'm wrong)

Awesome and thank you for showing the line drawn from the top of the one to the bottom of the ring as well, very helpful in determining many of the King George VI varieties.
While you're searching for your other 1952, you likely have some 1947s, ML or otherwise that you (and others) might kindly share photos of as well (thread coming soon). Top dog of the series!

Looking back at 1952 Varieties... Looking for a double HP, the 1952 stands a good likelihood. Here's my photo revealing some doubling of the "REX" as well. 1952 is the last year of King George VI's effigy. As history indicates Queen Elizabeth II took the thrown in Feb, 1952 I suppose not a lot of 1952 King Geo die repair was considered worthwhile if the 50c were still being minted during the year. The background area of the "52" is interesting as well. Over time its almost gotten filed flat as a pancake, and Hounddog Bill's photo is of a variety where there's absolutely nothing left whatsoever. Something that always fascinates me about coin (or currency) collecting is how well it illustrates and aligns with the passage of time.
