Need help figuring this out please. I have 1 golden Native American dollar Position B. Then I have 1 silver colored Native American Position A. There is only the slightest hint of a goldish colored around the edge so I am not sure if it was supposed to be silver and the other goldish color is some type of corrosion or if was supposed to be the gold color. There is no sign of any gold coloring on it not even on the edge where the print is incuse. Thank you all - Edited by CoinCents 02/11/2016 4:37 pm

Not sure what you mean by position A & B?

POSITION A - Edge lettering reads upside-down when the President's portrait faces up
POSITION B - Edge lettering reads normally when the President's portrait faces up

I have a tendency to over do my pictures so I thought I would just ask you all first. Especially since they are so shiny and hard to take pictures of. The information I get from the Internet is that they are goldened color. "U.S. Sacagawea or Native American dollars (2000-Present) are golden in color but are not made of gold, they're actually 85.5% copper plus a small percentage of zinc, Manganese and nickel. is that they are golden colored." I will post some picture shortly. Thanks

Found this information about the edge letters on coins from the U.S. mint: http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs...=EdgeIncusedOnly the Proof coins are struck with the three dies making them always correct with the obverse alignment. The business strikes are added separately and can vary to alignment.

I found this listing on ebay 381350515307 for this Satin Finish coin, so at least now I know they made them. But were they only made as Proofs? I am having such a difficult time finding out information on the Silver/Satin (clad) what ever it is. Most of what is out there is for the golden colored coins. So how can I tell if the little bit of coloring (around the inner edges of the rim and down below the bust) on my coin is supposed to have had the full golden color to it and it didn't get the final golden coloring? Or Something else. I don't think it is corrosion because that is usually blackish and they are more like pits, this coloring is all smooth. So what can it be? Please help Thanks

Satin Finish has nothing to do with color, it is a special matte finish given to Mint Set coins from 2005 to 2010. The US Mint does not make any silver or silver-colored golden dollars and the outer layers are composed of manganese brass alloy with a pure copper core, no plating is involved. If your NA dollars are silver colored, they have been altered in some manner.

Thanks coop, that is a really good link for me. So my coin is not a proof because the edge lettering is upside down.
Then is it supposed to be the golden color?
Thank you very much

Thanks Biokemist, please be patient with me because I still don't understand it all. Is this listing here on ebay also an altered coin? Native American, Position A, Satin Finish POSITION A - Edge lettering reads upside-down when the President's portrait faces up http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-D-Nati...381350515307

They do tend to tone to a wide array of colors when you get a chance post some side by side pics with others

Okay here are a couple pictures with a comparison to another Sacagawea dollar. Don't know if they are good enough. Bottom line though you all think that is was spray painted with chrome or something to that affect?

Looks to be just toning . They all start out gold colored. Only proofs have only position A. Business strikes can vary.
