Coop. I hope you chime in here as I am using a couple images from your You Tube videos to highlight my question. GREAT info by the way! The first image is titled ejection doubling and the second image shows a 2002D 1DR 001 coin. I am probably still missing something but the devices on both coins look similar. Help!!

So true I'm in the same boat.

The big difference between the two are that the one is hub doubled, and the other is just machine damaged. Note the overall shape of both devices. The hub doubling enlarges the devices. The ejection doubling is from a normal die, just showing the tops of the devices machine damaged.

This one was found by a concerted effort to locate the same type of hub doubling the 2004 DDRs had. So I check on every coin I ran into for different years that this may have happened. well it paid off with this find. So far only about 4-5 examples I know of that have been found. Bob Piazza found two, Jason Cuvelier found one and I found one. Seems like someone else said they found one.
The machine damaged coin from coin ejection:

Note the damage is on the tops of the devices, slightly different than the classic machine damage that alters the sides of the devices.

Thanks COOP. What puzzled me is that the 2002D shows the apparent doubling on both sides of the devices. I had it in my head that couldn't be a double die, rather MD. You point out though that it is hub doubling. The hub then transfers the design to the working dies, right? Guess I'll have to review everything again.

When you look at the overall size of the UN on UNUM on the ejection doubling image, you can see what size these devices should be. Then look up at the same letters on the hub doubled 2002-D cent. then you can see how it is showing a spread that makes it enlarged.
