Poll Question
Many of you have seen the other thread concerning possible coins to place into circulation as a publicity campaign. I have been thinking of placing 1 special coin into circulation as a "Welcome" to the community type thing. Here are a few coins for your consideration. Please vote for your favorite.

The coin could be placed into a roll of simular coins, spent at a local store, or placed into the "give a penny - take a penny" tray. However, that will be a different poll at a later date

IMO, it might not be best to use Lincolns since so many people just treat them like trash (i.e. tossing them into car floorboards or actually throwing them away). I think the best bet would be a nice Merc or SLQ, those are both quite eye-catching

Since people are already looking at nickels, I like the Liberty Head as a choice.

I opted for the 1909-S VDB since it's the most well-known coin among non-numismatists. I also presume the intent is to get people interested in coins and to draw them into your new shops (and maybe do some shopping), so having everyone within shouting range checking their change can't help but attract attention.

I also presume there will be news releases and/or other promotional tools to alert people to start watching their change. This could have the secondary consequence of a local run on a particular series; the announcement of the Wisconsin "corn stalk" quarters at the beginning of this year created a brief local quarter shortage here in Arizona. This is a good thing!

Exactly. I plan on having the newspapers show up prior to the placing the coin into circulation. A nice photo of the coin, along with the story of it being placed into circulation. Of course, there would be a standard "buy-back" offer placed on the coin. A reward.
Each week, the bounty would be placed in our advertisements.
I keep thinking of having a standard "monthly" bounty offered on a certian coin. Coins such as the Cheerios Sac could be used. While it would be great to actually have one walk into the shop, it would be more geared towards getting people to continue to "look" at their coins.
Max Mehl made tons of money trying to buy 1913 Liberty nickels. Same principle.
One staple of our new shop will focus on education. A once a month "club" meeting will take place.

Darn I hope gas prices come down as it is going to be a long drive to that monthly coin meeting! I can see that right now!

I voted for the 1909 S VDB because many people will never notice it. And the person that does find it will have that heartbeat skipping thrill of discovery. I know I would.
