Whoa! Maybe I better take a closer look at holed coins. Maybe the BHD collectors here could tell us how this BHD is so special - it's not the no-stem variety.

One can't just discredit jewellery related damaged coins... :)

Korea 1892 5 yang - reverse heavily ruined - I am hoping this is a genuine coin though... a VF of this is starting to hit over 2grand these few days...

Russia 1736 1 ruble - strong XF on the obverse but ruined at the reverse. If that wasn't there, I would have to pay at least thrice if not 4 times more... or who knows.

I went through my Overton book and it doesn't seem to match any of the varieties. I didn't read the entire CU thread, but it looks like they came to the same conclusion. That would make this a new find and worth a considerable amount of money.

You are correct Susan. If you read the whole thread ch10 believes it to be 0-129 variety. I know didly bout DHD's but this has sparked my interest.

I also just read the whole thread and, as both of you pointed out, it appears to be a new variety of BHD. I would not have guessed that such excitement could be made over a new variety, but there is the evidence to the tune of $2K.

I also was interested in the ebay auction mentioned in the thread of a possible new variety of 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar which went for over $2K. Something fishy about this one; check it out:

Looks to me like a new die marriage. The obverse is very close to obverse 8, while the reverse is A1UH.
Would really have to have the coin in hand to do accurate measurements, but seems like a great find.

I suspect it may be Chinese fake, but I wouldn't touch it if for no other reason than the seller's feedback - it's horrible; he's an honors graduate from the pjd 1966 School of Bad Sellers.

My book only goes up to 127a for this date. Guess it's time for a new book.

Susan, this discovery was not found in time to make the latest publishing. Will have to wait for the next issue next year.

There is no honors amongst thieves.
