The pictured 1885 CC Morgan dollar was identified as a fake by online shoppers. Can I get some feedback related to what they were seeing on the photos? I purchased it and listed it straight-away. This has been a real shock for me. Please help. Thanks.

I am no expert but I see the mintmark looks off, eagle looks off, face of liberty....It looks like a Chinese cast counterfeit. For CC coins always buy PCGS or NGC examples. Never buy these raw they are highly faked especially by China.

Send it to PCGS or NGC.
If it's legit it's worth the expense and you solve the question.
Rest in Peace

The mint mark is wrong. Compare your coin to the attached link. http://www.vamworld.com/1885-CC+Reverses

100% bogus. Casting pits on the reverse, CC mint mark is wrong font and wrong size, same steel gray surfaces with polishing lines as all the other ones from the no-no site have. Not a bag mark in sight and no chatter to be seen, meaning that if real, this coin would grade MS66, a $2300 coin -- and on top of that, the reverse strike is perfect, but the obverse strike is incredibly weak, almost resembling AU details more than high MS details.

Wow, sorry to the op. I hope you didn't get burned too bad. This is one of the better China fakes I've seen though that would fool most without specific morgan knowledge or knowledge of Chinese counterfit processes so don't feel too bad

I'd return it if you have an option or contact ebay support cause it's 100% fake.
