Hello everyone, I have a very similar situation here. I have the same proof set of 1983 S with the Lincoln Cent having a pretty noticable error. Even may be to a naked eye. So question is I did do research of course but was not able to come up with the value of it coin. So I have no idea if I should sell it with the whole proof set or by itself? No idea what to ask for it. I put it up for auction on ebay yesterday morning to see if grabs any attention at least.. I actually found only 1 of them after hours of research. also on ebay. Ohh I have two of the same set with the same error. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** Edited by GS-1905 02/14/2016 03:11 am

the thread you posted in was several months old, and you probably needed your own thread.

I understand thank you again. How old is too old to post on?

it really depends. There was a recent post to a thread from 2014 but it seemed to compliment/follow the prior discussion.

I get it. Depending on the activity on it I guess. I wish I joined you guys a lot sooner. really like it here. Everyone is super nice and willing to help. Feels like you can never overwhelm you people. No idea what you are made of. :) I would learn just by reading here before I even joined. which was only about 24 hours ago. Anyway, really anxious to hear what you all have to say about this.

Your coin suffers from split plating. It's pretty common and not desirable.

hmm interesting, mixed feedback so far. thank you so much for telling me. Even so it is a proof set wouldn't add any value to it?

You should always use another thread for each coin. I agree with split plating, but I also see what appears to be surface scratches. It is very important that proof cents are never handled with bare hands, and should be immediately put into a protection device after removed from cello of proof set. Many people will not purchase if removed from original cello.

The plating is so thin that the die cuts into the plating, often at the top or bottom of a design element. This does not ad value, and in the case of a proof, negatively impacts it's desirability.

oh wow thinking adding value is totally opposite huh. There is another one I found on ebay graded 66 or 68 can't remember right now but I will check again, he is asking $599. he has his out of the proof set box obviously. so thats great news, zero value :) And I have mine still in the set I have not removed it. At all. Thank you all.. so far 0 for 2
