Is it really worth anywhere near 5000 Euros? And the subject material doesn't strike me as very attractive: the 25th anniversary of the abolition of the death penalty. For that amount, I'd also like to see an image of the reverse.

It is worth 2300 euro in gold price ( plus tax in france ) But if it goes the way pre year 2000 issues have gone it will in a few years be trading at only 10% over goldprice

The exclusive coin only ten made only was bid up to 70% of gold price Lucky the vendor had a reserve in . Now what does this professional vendor do ? Well of course restart the auction without changing anything

Ageka, why isn't gold in demand in Europe? If the same coin were offered in the US, it would be snagged in a Yankee heartbeat, albeit for only slightly less than melt and with shipping taken into consideration.

I think there are two reasons for low sale prices First ebay is not unified ; there is ebay belgium, france, holland , germany, italy, spain, UK etc and in each country one can decide to ship inside the country only This means people log into their own country ebay and the main goldbuyers are germans and there are today 2600 goldcoins for sale on ebay germany alone Second there is national intrest In france only 100 - 200 year old french coins sell well The new proof French coins do a lot better on german ebay Some coins however like the canadian proof coins are not liked on any ebay here last week a canadian 1977 olympic proof coin no box no certificate sold for 15% below melt in france . The vendor had set the visible starting price at 200 and only got 211 whilst melt is 242 The problem with the particular coin only ten ever made is simple It has a face value of 450 euro so in principle if you go with this half ounce to the national bank you get 450 and the price of gold is only 240 for an half ounce So nobody is even trying to bid because they fear the reserve is 450

It's a nice coin. Unfortunately, all my gold investment funds (and funds for other coin purchases, stocks, gas, food, and toilet paper) are being diverted for a new rear axle for my Jeep. Fortunately, fantasies are cheap! Fred

A kilo? Presuming it's 24 karat, its melt walue would be about 22,196 US$ or about 28,385 Euros. But, if translate my Deutsch correctly, gold is going for 13,500 Euros per kg, so this coin is undervalued (29700 Euros) for its start bid. Does it have a chance to sell? That's awfully spendy for an ebay auction. Fred
