I just read a short article in Archaeology magazine regarding the recent discovery of the Watlington hoard, and I thought I would share it with the rest of you. It seems that the hoard (buried after the Battle of Edington) contains a number of coins issued jointly by Alfred the Great of Wessex and Ceolwulf II of Mercia, who were previously thought to have been rivals. Any thoughts?
