Does Heritage use its Heritage Value Index as a type of average price range for sales? How does it work?

Thanks

Nobody knows. Personally, I think they drink beers and shoot dice on Friday afternoons to come up with the index.

That is the price range they believe a coin should sell in. As you can see when they show their own value range they also show you just about every other price guides estimate. It includes CDN, Trend, etc. Every price range from wholesale to retail.

The Value Index is the very best price you will ever find listed anywhere for coins of value and an anticipated price expectation. It does nothing for raw coins, or modern coins of little value, but it is the best there is for real monetary value.

If you compare the prices that TPG's (PCGS and NGC only) sell for on ebay for coins with eye appeal in the specific grade you will find that most actual selling prices will be in that value range that Heritage gives you for free.

If someone tries to tell you otherwise they are uninformed and have not actually done a comparison of prices realized against the Value Index.

moxking- I was thinking that those prices seemed like a good guide. There is a range there, which allows for eye appeal/strike/toning variation. The prices- at least for UNC Buffaloes- seem decent and comparable to what I would consider a good deal on ebay. They also seem to be in line with past Heritage sales. Thanks for the info.
