Hi all. I'm Mike from the Old Line State. New to forums but been collecting since 1962. Coins came from paper route, lemonade and fruit stands, odd jobs, UNICEF collection at Halloween (got many foreign coins that way, which I replaced with US denominations), hovering over the lunch cashier in grade school, searching through bank rolls... makes me cringe now, but was a good start. Stopped for thirty years (or has it been over forty?), with only occasional purchases of mint sets and commemoratives. Much has changed in collecting since those days: on-line auctions, TPG, globalization and counterfeiting, photography, varieties and errors, forums... wow, I have a lot to learn. CCF, thanks for being here.
Rest in Peace

to CCF Mike. This is the best site bar none to learn about numismatics. I took a rather long hiatus from collecting myself while raising my kids. Enjoy!

P.S. I also benefitted from grandparents who were also collectors in their day, or perhaps hoarders is a better term since it was the bullion value that was important to them. This I inherited which gave me a substantial start to low-grade IHC, V-nickels, Barber denominations, and Morgan/Peace dollars. No gold unfortunately. I'm interested in completing these collections, and have become interested in CWT and HTT for historical reasons.

Actually, from what was pulled from circulation 25, 50 years ago can give you a nice start - yesteryears "oh, an Indian Head" becomes today's "original, untouched VF/XF" coin.

Mike to CCF, we should have a lot in common as I started collecting around the same time. Remember the mail auctions , how about the postage when ordering coins from a dealer you saw in a magazine 0.25 ,Not $4-$6 that most want today. I had taken some quality time off from coins also around 1984-2007 (family, children, bills ,etc.) Over the past few years ; I'm back with a Vengeance !
