Fairly new to collecting and new to the forum. I got two Series 2009 50 dollar star notes at work and not too familiar with star notes and their values I just hold on to all the ones I come across. I did find that these are from the first run of 640,000. Both are in pretty good condition the lower having a crease in the bottom right corner. I just don't really know what to look for so any information would be appreciated...

Welcome to the forum, I myself am a new member here. So what is it that you would like to know, or learn?

Just curious if there is any value here. I work at a restaurant and go through a lot of cash I usually trade co workers or hold on to anything unusual I come across so wondering if there is anything I should definitely keep my eye out for. I have a ton of star notes and also older currency. I just started looking at serials but not really sure what I should be looking for...

I would say it really depends on how much they mean to you and what reasons you collect for. Are you collecting for a future investment or do you collect just because you are interested in the history, story, and rarity behind some of these notes. I myself collect because I love American History and I find the collecting of Paper Money fascinating. Every piece tells a story and is a piece of history. So to me all my notes are extremely valuable and sentimental. I love the look and interest in peoples faces when they see them and you explain what some of the notes represent and stand for. I never want to sell any of mine but pass them down and hopefully my heirs will keep them in the family and pass them on and add to them for generations to come. And you know the saying,"It is worth as much as you can get someone to pay for it". So I guess the Value really could depend on what the word "Value" means to you personally.

I would at least keep the one that is in the best condition....especially for face value.

As for a straight forward answer and IMO the notes you have pictured would sell for anywhere between $60-$80.. If that was the answer you were looking for.

The problem with saving fairly common, circulated high denomination notes is the amount of money you're tying up that might be spent on better opportunities.

coinfrog is right..if you can afford to, keep xxxx676. This is likely a long term investment, keep what you are comfortable with!

Thanks for all the help I intend to keep all of them. Fortunately I can afford to hold on to them right now. I intend to, down the road maybe use some that I have towards older bills. I only have a few old bills and I really enjoy the artwork and uniqueness of the older paper currency. Still new and still learning thanks for the welcome :)

aboard. Strap yourself in and enjoy the ride. Personally I'd spend them on a couple of paper money reference books if you don't have them. They will assist your long-term search and definitely increase your knowledge. A Friedberg catalog is a must have! Another "must" is visit the CCF members who have items for sale and browse their offerings; will give you some insights into values, conditions, etc. Just click the "Member CCF Sales" and/or "Member ebay Sales" buttons at the top of the screen. Good luck and good hunting.

Depends on how badly you need them in your budget. I save notes like the better one of the two you have for my great grandkids (but it won't be worth much more than face value during our lifetimes...well, maybe a few bucks more but not much). I would give you $55 for the better one "676" Just let me know.

thanks for all the tips and suggestions I think I will be investing in a reference book but still going to hold on to the bills even if not holding much value I still enjoy them and as USN said hope to hand over a nice collection to children down the road. Will keep posting as I build my collection
