I have a chance to buy a 1889 s over s VAM 7 ms 62 slabbed Morgan coin. I can't find any value for it. A regular 1889 s ms62 is around $300.Is it the same?

I don't think VAM7 is a value added VAM.

How about the s over s. Should add some value?

Only list vams add any real premium aside from 2 die variety collectors looking for that specific one and fighting over it. Morgans and Peace dollars and their die varieties (vams) are collected in a vastly different way than any other series

Cascade what are you referring to as listed vams? The top 50 and 100? Seems like every Morgan has a VAM.

Yes. Every single morgan IS a VAM since VAM numbers refer to die parings. The list vams are vams with unusual features that were deemed to have broad appeal for various reasons. Here's the link to vamworld. Look on the left side of the page and scroll down. You'll see the links for each list there and also on each year/mint's page any list vams will be identified as such in its title http://www.vamworld.com/

The regrettable (as it can be confusing) term "list VAMs" refers to assorted published lists of VAMs that have a wider following, such as the Top 100, Hot 50, 78 8TF, Hit List. This is not to be confused with "list ed VAMs," which are those listed in the VAM catalog. That said, there is probably no premium on the 89-S VAM 7, since it doesn't have any following beyond that of normal 89-S Morgans. If I look at PCGS's auction prices realized, an 89-S in 62 goes for between $260 and $300, so $300 is OK if it's a really nice 62.

Ok I picked it up. Noticed a odd type "shadow" on date and stars. Anybody seen this and can tell me what caused it? Looked through the VAM list and don't see anything. It is a old green PCI holder and has VAM 7 on it and s/s.

I have read that the metal flow that occurs while the coin comes up to full strike changes the surface properties in that area. The result is areas that are resistant to the natural toning process.

Wowzers. That's gotta be one of the most prominent examples of "pullaway" I've ever seen. If that was a monster toner that pullaway would look wicked!. Seriously, I think that's the strongest I've ever seen and I seriously doubt it can get much stronger on a morgan. Me like
