It appears that your coin is in some kind of encasement as seen by the extra "lip" of copper around the rim, which also explains why your coin is 2 grams heavier than it should be. 1869 is a tougher date and it would have been worthwhile getting that coin removed but 1896 is a common date and only worth $1-2 in that condition.
