I have an 1869 Indian Head penny. The front is in excellent condition. The reverse is blank and smooth with a silver tone. Any idea of worth?

kelli - the date is actually 1896. The reverse has been defaced; it is post-mint damage.

In any event -

Are you sure the coin is not in a holder or something. It should not weigh that much.

And the obverse photo has a ring around the whole coin. It must be a jewelry piece or something like that

Your weight conflicts with my initial blind assessment- PMD via reverse removal from a lathe or grinder, that is why it is always a good idea to see pictures before commenting too much. It appears that your coin is in some kind of encasement as seen by the extra "lip" of copper around the rim, which also explains why your coin is 2 grams heavier than it should be. 1869 is a tougher date and it would have been worthwhile getting that coin removed but 1896 is a common date and only worth $1-2 in that condition.
