coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 02/23/2016 12:24 am The reason that area was raised is because of the chip (part of the die material is missing) would leave a void that is left on the die , that is raised on coins struck from that point onward on all coins that follow. It can even get worse with time and continued use of the die. (probably not deemed as a reason to retire the die) Report this Post to the Staff
