Prper term for this is "die chip". A Cud involes the rim.

The die chip is gradually getting worse with use. The die probably was retired soon after this run was complete. (if they noticed it?)

I was given two rolls of 2008 cents from a friend and there were about 10 coins from the same reverse and they were is about 4 stages of die break down. So I made this GIF with 4 of them.
