Came across this coin today. Seems normal till I look at the reverse and can't focus in on his legs. Optical illusion ?
I am sure it is just me but I thought I would share.

Thank you members for looking

Nice toning on this coin.

I checked a few in the tube of BU coins I have and they pretty much look like that year. The center area is the space between the two thin legs on the statue. Pretty poor reverse that year.

Before the 2009 reverses were considered, I designed a reverse that I thought would be a good replacement. (pre 2008)

The center area is between the legs. The bottoms of the arm chair bases is weakened. (But check other examples, they are all that way)
Rest in Peace

Every 1973 cent looks that way. So there is no cornering the market on these.
