I have a 1897 S mint Morgan silver dollar. I was told my Grandfather received this in his pawn shop in the 40's. My father left it to me. I don't think this coin was in very many hands at all. It hasn't been taken out of a bag in a safety deposit box for 50 years until now. I can't see one thing wrong with this coin. I read that one in this good of shape could be worth 30k. What should be my next step with this. Also what are your thoughts on its grade and worth? I can read the reflection of news paper writing from quite far away off of it.

There is no need to start two threads both asking grade and value. This one in the VAM section can cover VAM, grade, and value.

to the community!!

Nice looking coin, however there is a lot of glare from light on coin so make it difficult to grade.

Try reducing light or changing light position to take pic, then crop image to just coin to enlarge somewhat.

Thank you for responding. I tried to add two new photos that will let you see it better. I'm still figuring everything out on here though.

The names of images must be unique, otherwise the last one uploaded overwrites the others of the same name.

Here's mine..

Help-Please-I-Think-I-Really-Have-Something-Good-Here.

PCGS states values of $190 for MS-64 then jumps to $750 for MS-65. To get anywhere near the 30k figure you speak of your's would have to grade MS-68.

Based on the pics you provided I don't think it's anywhere near that. Hopefully you'll post some additional pics.

I agree, AU. I think you may be confusing 1897-S with 1897- O. An 1897-O Morgan in GEM uncirculated condition would approach your $30k estimate. 1897-s had a healthy survival rate in UNC condition, the 1897-O did not and is therefore a conditional rarity.

and to CCF.
