I just got this in the mail today, and since I never held a capped bust half (thank you Joe2007 for correcting me) before it was a little different, like it's a tiny bit bigger then modern half dollars, I did the silver ping test and it sounds real, and it has words on the rim, I would just like everyone's opinion on it thank you, and if someone can help confirm the date It would be much appreciated, thank you!

Genuine. Sadly, the damage makes it worth $25, tops, methinks.

It is a Capped Bust Half. Not sure about the date. Genuine but due to the damage it's value is diminished.

It's genuine, don't know why anyone would want to scratch out the last number in the date though. This would make a nice pocket piece.

Could it be possible that it's a lamination error on the date?

I agree with others....date damage severely diminishes the value....Looks like a 1830 or 1831...but damage has been done.. sorry.

By the reverse legend smaller lettering and style of the remaining date numerals, it's an 1834, 1835 or 1836. Definitely not an 1830.

It's an 1836 Overton 114 R2

Not worth a lot due to the damage, but still a piece of history.
