Hi I was just wondering about this error coin, I'm not to up to date on pricing of error coins(all I know is coinscan.com) so I thought I'd ask here as I don't really collect it and I intend to eventually sell it. Sorry for the pictures they don't really do the coin justice the luster is absolutely intense with the coin in hand.

Stats are 18.06mm diameter, 1.10mm thick and 2.1g(scale only does 1 decimal place).

It's a common date for this type of error, 200 to 300 bucks is a good price.

Bring it by my table at Nuphilex, I'll have another one there (same date) that you can compare it to... Look for the sign the same as my avatar.

I have the same one that I took out from the slab and looked at it at the microscope and could see copper color on it .I thought that I have bought a fake . ( dont you see the same spots on yours?)

It seems plated why the finish is so dull?

Mine was brilliant and lustrous it literally burned the eyes, just didn't pick up in the picture. Any spots are generally from a little dirt as this was probably in circulation for a little bit and peoples hands are dirty. I actually brought it along to another sale I was making and ended up selling it as well yesterday as I was offered a more then fair price. Also it's magnetic a normal plated 1979 would not have been the same would be true of yours and also doesn't NGC guarantee authenticity anyways.

the real test is magnetism, if this is 99% nickel it would be extremely attracted, if it was copper, no way would it even feel the pull.

Here is an other one I got at the same october Forex 2010 who appear to be non magnetic but was not slab like the 1979 . I could see copper color spot at the microscope as well .

On the 1983, the scratches make me think that this has been played with. I think someone has filed the edges down a bit and done something to discolour the coin. True off planchet cents almost always seem to be in MS condition. They get picked out of circulation almost immediately I think.

If this was sold by a reputable dealer, they should take it back. Though if they sold this as an error, they may not be reputable
