I just bought this back(!) from the dealer I sold it to (over a year or two ago). Yep, I guess I really couldn't part with it. This coin has the deepest mirrors you can just about imagine on a DMPL with gorgeous Cameo contrast. The only item of note is that mite of a toning spec in front of the face on the obverse. Whaddya think? I'd also be curious to know what some of you Morgan guys feel fair market value for this coin is (not just wholesale bid, but real trading value).

I would grade this MS 64 DMPL. I would think a price around three hundred dollars would be about right for this coin.

I don't know about value, but you are very fortunate to get it back. Happened to me a couple of times, but then couldn't get it back. lol.

Nice coin

Tough to grade from any photo. Looks at least MS63 to me. Beautiful coin.

It's great that the dealer still had it!

Prethen,

You've turned a lot of members into two and Three Cent collectors ... it's about time we had an effect on your collecting habits.

If it's as truly DMPL as you say there are many collectors out there that will let you name the price ... ignoring the price sheets. Case in point, I sold an 1882-CC that you could read text 12 inches away using the standard test. I got double the bid price for a DMPL. Take it to some shows and show it around. Word will get out quickly.

I'm confused though (easily accomplished ). You gave it up over a year ago and sought it out to put it back in your collection. Now you are asking for its true trade value. Are you thinking of letting it go again?

Dave, that's a fair question. I don't know much about the DMPL market. I bought the coin back at a price under the Sheet because of the relationship I have with the dealer. I'm curious as to how something like this is valued in today's market and if it's in any sort of strong demand. This is one area of the market I don't personally look into.

The coin is in an ICG MS64DMPL holder and I believe it is a very nice 64 but not technically a 65.
