This " coin " does not look right, This is just my opinion, The Trade dollars had reeding along the Collar side of the coin, also the " overall " look to this piece looks Very odd, relief and devices are what appears to be out of place......

Agree it doesn't look right. Strike is too mushy and seems to have been artificially aged and toned. Huge numbers of Trade dollars are fake so unless it looks perfect always err on the side of caution - even if the coin is in a slab as slabbed Trade dollars are also faked.

Yea my buddy has a real example and his had a reeded edge. I'll return it to him later this week....I'll use the money on something else.

It's real, just heavily damaged IMO. The reeding was taken off and the mushiness is also damage of some kind

Cannot say for sure but looks real but ex-jewelry and heavily polished over the years. The certain diagnostics I look for with the scroll hand, stones and motto banner look reasonably close.

Regardless of the reason that the coin is so beat, it has too many things against it to make it marginally collectible. There are so many different fake Trade dollars from so many times and places that you almost HAVE to have the coin in hand to be definitive as to its originality.

Agree of course, but I think Ploopy is correct.
