Hey guys, I wasn't sure where to post this, but basically, what happened was that the self-inking stamp I use to mark bills for Where's George is not working properly. It comes out all blurry and the ink is smeared, and I tried cleaning and re-inking the stamp several times (it appeared to be dry), but to no avail. I'm wondering what the problem is, since my stamp was working fine a few days ago, but now, I can't mark any more bills with it since it's unreadable.

I ordered another stamp since I got this first one used, but I would really appreciate it if I got some information on what happened. Thank you in advance.

Sounds like the wrong type of ink... water based vs. other types don't mix.

Hmmm... is the rubber on the stamp wearing out or deteriorating? How old is it?

BStraus3 could be on to something with ink type.

I got this stamp from someone I know who was on the site for years, and gave the stamp to me since he was inactive and didn't really use the site anymore. I'd say the stamp has been around at least 10 years since that's how long he's been doing the site.

My stamps (mostly from Holmes, IIRC) use "Xstamper" refill ink, which is manufactured by Shachihata, Harbor City, CA.

The box references ASTM D-4236 http://www.astm.org/Standards/D4236.htm) which basically says if there was anything truly nasty in there it has to be labeled as such.

So this is PROBABLY a simple alcohol based ink.
