Hi I am new here and found the site in a search. Recently I won a prize being an 1889 P Morgan silver dollar labeled as AU++ Nice Error. Being new to this I am unfamiliar with errors.

Was wondering if anyone could possibly help me spot the error on this coin. The only think I see that is slightly off is the coin border appears offset, could this be the error they are referring to or are most errors pretty specific.

thanks for any help and advice!

to CCF. It might be a VAM of some sort. Give it a bit an a member who knows VAM's will chime in.

Nice prize, as far as errors go, I caution that you may be giving too much credit to whomever labeled that coin. What I mean is, if you can't figure it out, it may simply be incorrect. That being said there's one error that would be impossible for CCF members to see and only you could identify. Did you check that the "front" and "back" of the coin are aligned at 180° offset. So if you hold it right side up in between your thumb and forefinger with any side facing you and then rotate it to the other side it should be upside down. Let us know please if you find anything out.

Wonderful prize. I'm not seeing anything that might be counted as an error, but as has been mentioned, it might be a rotated die.

It appears BigSilver might have nailed it. the Lady Liberty head is completely vertical but when I flip it the eagle is far off from vertical, very interesting. Thanks for the info.

Great, if you have any 2x2s you can show this in photo. I would love to see it. I am sure some others would as well. Place the coin in the 2x2 and photograph each side with the cardboard in the same position for best effect.

After further review maybe I was wrong on the offset. When I originally viewed it the date was not centered on bottom but I set it with where I thought her head looked properly aligned. After moving the date to the bottom as shown here it seems the back is not too out of alignment if at all.. what do you think? I tried to square up the pictures with the case edges squarely, and this was flipped vertically so the eagle is 180 degrees mostly
