Wow!

That is quite amazing. The first layer of copper was stripped away and the zinc followed suit do to it's lack of protection from the elements.

I am shocked that the thin layer of copper is still intact on the revere

where'd ya get it?

Every week I buy a box ($25) of pennys from my local bank. They don't have very many NEW rolls of pennys, so I am lucky for that.

Right...the Zinc always loses in the Cu-Zn galvanic reaction, or so I hear! (I'm not a chemist)

A hole in that position is more common than you would think. It is caused by a split in the copper at the mint mark followed by zinc rot which eventually leads to the mint mark falling off.

Zincolns

Nicel play on letters. I thought at first it was an error, but you used two different areas of the keyboard. Zinc was the key word. Made my day.

This coin looks as if it was shot by a small caliber weapon causing a gouge? Note that it nearly went through! Like William Tell. It's sort of like an asteroid hitting the moon causing a crater with an overlapping perimeter.

Coop, I can't take credit for "Zincolns" I read it on a metal detecting forum and it stuck with me!

I also like "Can Slaw" which is the little pieces of soda/beer cans that have been chewed up by a lawnmower.
