I ordered this Bitcoin token for fun just to have a super cheap way of seeing how plated silver tones. Then I thought what would be the best use and placed small magnets on the back and turned it into a safe/fridge magnet. Looks cool kinda want more now :). Yeah I have a bottle cap obsession to go with my antique safe and coin collection. I just place magnets on the back and stick them places to add a little americana charm :) Feel free to give me your counterfeits muhahaha. Edited by Bertensgrad 03/03/2016 8:02 pm

A fun way to use them. Clutter is sometimes soothing.

Clutter is a understatement with my bottle cap collection. It's all modern but I have three hundred different design caps on different safes. I just pop a magnet on and then pop them on no glue or anything. With the coin I just used some of my small rare earth magnets on the back so the affect on toning will be less. Though I don't think the air gap is enough to tone.
I do see the bottle caps as little art works of commercial graphic design. Placing them into a design and seeing colors in a gestalt is fun.

Back in the 50's we lived next to the County Fairgrounds, and as kids we would go there to play. Underneath the bleachers were many bottle caps. We used to take our pocket knife (yes, 6 year olds carried pocket knives) and pry the cork seal from the cap. The cap was then placed on the front of the shirt and the cork seal pressed from the inside of the shirt into the cap. The caps looked like badges, and we wore them proudly.

The ironic thing I think this token is a counterfeit. I bought it because the seller said iron with silver plating. I was looking on the token however and its says silver plated copper. So do I have fake Chinese copper bullion since its magnetic lol

How much did you pay for a silver plated item? I'm thinking it could be cheaper to take your favorite coin to a jeweller, but a caveat, they do not treat coins with respect and they might polish it. Just be really clear with your instructions as some of the time jobs get subcontracted out of house.

.92 cents Canadian, though I paid US with a exchange rate. All of the Bitcoin tokens like this is cheap less then two dollars. I like TOR encryption and bitcoins and stuff just for fun so I thought it would be cool. All and all it was a cheap double sided fridge magnet. They have gold plated and silver platted ones. I decided to go silver to see how they tone.

Does anyone know, does a silver-plated coin still pass the 'tissue' test?

Silver plated coins do pass the tissue test. Since it's the surface colour that is seen through the tissue anything silvery will look blast white. Most toned silver coins do not pass the tissue test silmply because there's too much non-silver on the surface. These "bitcoins" are nothing else but fantasy coins. Since bitcoins are only a virtual currency there's no such thing as a physical form of them. These fantasy pieces are pretty popular though.

If it doesn't pass the tissue test, it's probably nickel plated.
