I was taking a close look at this 1928 Standing Liberty quarter with my loupe when I noticed what appears to be a scooped area between L and I in LIBERTY. It does not look to be post-mint damage, and in fact there also appears to be a die crack extending from that area up to and over the letter B.

Perhaps my eyes are just playing tricks on me, but I was wondering if anyone recognizes this as a known die error.

Possibly a die crack?

I don't think it's a die crack, since it's incuse. Just PMD in my opinion. Even if it were a strike-through or something, it wouldn't put much of premium on the coin in that condition.
Rest in Peace

It's PMD. As soon as you see the scrape going over the top of the letters it's about the only answer.

A strike-through would also go over the letters, but I agree. I'm fairly certain it's PMD.

Thanks everyone! That helps. Seeing that the line going over the letters is raised and not grooved, as a scratch would show, had me thinking it could be a die error.

Interesting.....my best guess would be a PMD. I'm guessing tho happened early in its life and it has since been worn down. Nice coin!

I think you are right. Wear has smoothed out the more obvious signs of damage. Thankfully the date remained visible after its years in circulation and before being lost.
