Another auction find.
I won 3 coins and this was in the set not labeled as an "S". While looking at it when it arrived I keep seeing all these split edges on the coin. Is this just Machine Doubling. Hard to take pic through plastic protector.

Thanks for all opinion

You need to check this book out of you are going to get hard into Ike varieties... It's helped me out a lot... I would answer your question for you but I'm not home right now to look it up.

There was one listed on the previous volume on the CPG (Cherry Picker Guide) but they mentioned they were going to remove that listing and promised more in the next guide. (which I don't have)

But I see machine damage on some devices and some looks like hub doubling, but minor. I keep this one safe for now.

I actually just got one same year and everything from a coin community contest and mine has doubling that is the same. In doing some research I found that a lot of different 1971 s doubled dies are out there. So many that it doesn't really add any value to the coin unless its major. Her is some neat information on the subject http://www.ikegroup.info/?page_id=971

Thanks Free4ever747,
Funny thing is the coin was not even listed as a proof in the auction. I was looking at 2 other 1oz silvers and this was with them..

Keep in mind that a collector may have passed away and now the family maybe selling off his collection? That might be an auction to look at a second time.

I'm going to get another safe for the collection and put that inside a larger safe and then never tell my family the combo... I think it's sad to see a collection sold off undervalued
