I was watching this ebay auction for what looks like a very nice 1897-S Barber half dollar. I checked for known fakes and didn't find anything to match. The coin looked good to me, but the seller hasn't sold anything this rare or expensive. I threw in a bid knowing there was no real way I'd get the coin. It went for $661, which, if real, is a great price. What do folks think about this coin? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1897-s-SILV...p=true&rt=ncPaul Bulgerin

Sorry, but I wasn't the winner.
However, if it is an original piece that is a great price.

I always get nervous when a seller gives so little attention to the pictures for such a high value item. Just saying.

The photos are just too small for me to give an honest opinion. I certainly wouldn't have bid with those photos, regardless of the end price.

I felt the zoom feature provided all the detail I would have asked for. Good pick-up for somebody!

The date (especially the 7), the misshapen mintmark and several warty projections on Liberty's neck make me uneasy.

I noticed the same seller is trying to auction one of those "gold" tribute coins, as seen on TV. He has it in a 2x2, like the above Barber, and the word COPY is clearly visible, but the seller maintains it is 24K gold without mentioning it is obviously just plated in gold. So far no one has taken the 24K bait pitch and the bids are still low. http://www.ebay.com/itm/24-kart-191...301887277355
