Just caught this on CBC news: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/wom...ll-1.3481848Interesting that the next series of bank notes is already coming in 2018. That aside, I'd love to hear your thoughts on who might be worthy candidates. I'm also wondering if there is an opportunity here to put an indigenous person on our money as well... thoughts on that also welcome! You can also submit your nominations on the BOC website: http://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknoteable/

PLENTY of women have been featured on Canadian banknotes; this is nothing new. It's a good idea that's already been done redundantly. This is only to make the shiny pony look good for the press.

Trudeau needs to read a Charlton Paper Money Catalogue to get up to speed. Women have appeared on Canadian Bank notes for well over a hundred years.

I don't disagree that we've seen lots of women on money - allegorical figures, monarchs, and even the scientist on the recent $100 polymer note. I also won't disagree that perhaps the new government is capitalizing on the moment... "because its 2015"
But I think the question is to put a figure along the lines of a Nellie McClung or an Emily Carr on our bank notes? Perhaps more of a cultural figure vs. political?
The other question one might ask is, do we keep people off our money altogether? I'm not necessarily in favour of this, but throwing the idea out there nonetheless.

The topic of photos is really not that surprising from the selfie king.

Men and women should appear equally on our currency but they should not be real Canadians. Perhaps we should return to allegorical figures as in the past. Our country is still too young to have had any heroes or heroines deserving of the kind of immortality of someone who appears on a country's currency. John A. Macdonald would turn in his grave if he knew his image replaced the Queen's on the ten dollar bill, his greatest wish was to die as a British subject and there are still Canadians alive today who believe Mackenzie King, who appears on the fifty, and was Prime Minister in their youth, was the devil incarnate.

A new banknote series in 2018 already? Apparently, canadian banknote series don't last long. Quote: Men and women should appear equally on our currency That's a problem if you have just five denominations in circulation Or you do it like the Australian with two persons of different gender on each banknote. (I'm not of fan of that). Quote:
but they should not be real Canadians. Perhaps we should return to allegorical figures as in the past. Real persons on banknotes always creates brouhaha/trouble/problems/crapstorms/ectr. nowadays. Someone or some group will certainly be offended by the choice. Allegorical figures would be a way to go. But in my eyes, it's better to stay away from persons completely.

I agree, it leads to nothing but a lot of controversy. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/asi...ls-1.1183360Furthmore in my opinion this announcement is nothing but a smoke and mirrors game to take people's focus away from real significant issues of the day. I notice this diversionary tactic has become a common practise by all levels of government.

Haven't all of the people featured on Canadian notes been either monarchs or Prime Ministers? I'm not a note collector but don't recall any deviation of that standard.
If so, this would be a significant departure and I agree will lead to lots of unnecessary teeth gashing.

I feel like regardless of what is put on the banknotes, it won't satisfy everyone. There will always be someone complaining about something. That's nature, IMO. Quote: Men and women should appear equally on our currency but they should not be real Canadians. Perhaps we should return to allegorical figures as in the past. That would be a cool concept in my opinion.

leave our notes alone! Very few people, like myself, even use CASH anymore......so all these busybodies will never even see these notes, as they are using their credit cards. But this is the perfect topic for the CBC.

Interesting responses. Why do we need a new series in 2018 unless the B.O.C is planning on a gradual release keeping within their 7 year mandate of updating security features and staying ahead of counterfeiters. Like coins, the benefits are lost if replaced and destroyed before the end of their life expectancy. Certainly doesn't make sense to sell Canadians on the fact that the new material is designed to last much longer in circulation then arbitrarily cut it short for no good reason. More taxpayer money wasted with very little profit generated from recycling! Just look at the Euro which has only recently and is still in the process of being modernized after 12+ years. Besides we would have to considerable effort and resources trying to get the public to accept these new notes and educate them on who these chosen famous Canadian women are.

Trudeau had nothing to do with initiating this issue, he is responding to many petitions that can be found on the internet and here is one example http://www.heroines.ca/celebrate/currency.htmlStrangely enough the bank of Canada was the first to be petitioned but they refused any changes until Trudeau got involved. I honestly can't understand why anybody would be against having women featured on current bills or even why the bank of Canada would fight this issue the way they have.

I've had a woman on every piece of canadian coinage. It's nothing more than his rebranding of Canada in his father's image. Divide and conquer. What's next gender neutral hero's?

What's all the controversy about? Pam Anderson would look great in a retro Baywatch bathing suit. Or, to be more current, Mila Kunis in Black Swan.
