a friend at work asked me today if thee was any metal in our new polymer bills,.i thought that was an interesting question.so I told him I would ask you guys;
does the hologram contain any metal? I'm not sure how its made.
this question came up as I was mentioning I was going out metal detecting tonight and he asked if my detector would find a bill,,,i guess I can try it but if there is any metal at all in the hologram I doubt there is enough to register on the detector

well I went to a spot about 5 mins form home. I have been eyeing this spot for quite some time and I finally decided to scout it out. was there for about 20 mins and found some junk metal and these items a 1970 dog tag a 73(small bust) quarter and a 61 quarter. but I forgot to test a bill to see if the metal detector would pick it up, but at least I found a new close spot to hunt!

A guy I work with in Hamilton was talking to me today about going out metal detecting (not bills though). I would be very surprised if there was any metal in a polymer bill that was detectable but I'm not 100% sure.

I was pretty sure that back in the 80's and 90's the U.S. had a small security strip that was embeded into the note, although I'm not sure it had any metal content.

I don't think any notes have had a metallic filament embedded into the notes... I think the closest thing would be the 80's "bird series" notes had a security feature that had metallic ink which highligted the denomination... but I don't think that would be detectable.

Try this link at the Bank of Canada for the description of the "metallic" portrait of the Queen on the Hologram.

I believe all the holograms on Polymer notes have metallic content.

Not sure if it can be detected by a metal detector.
