Hey everyone

I have been looking for a stater for a while but am coming up dry across all avenues I have attempted with results being either extortionately expensive or very poor quality.

For example this coin graded NGC XF* 5/5, 5/5
Help-OH-My-Florin-Find-A-Stater
A nice coin at around $4000 but utterly extortionate at $6500+ which is utterly frustrating considering at $4000 it would be a done deal.

So if anyone knows of a person selling or in possession of a coin and willing to sell with the following attributes could you please refer them to me or post here?

Macedonian Stater or fractional stater
Alexander III or Philip II (Humous or Posthumous up to 310bc)
Pella or Amphipolis Mints
Preferably NGC Graded AU or higher ridiculously nice XF will be considered
No details gradings

Thanks everyone for your help

You are looking for a fairly specific range for the coin and I did pass your note on to a dealer friend in New York that probably has what you want, but he'll have to contact you on availability and price.

Just coming across this post...been very busy lately.

OMF, are you a Heritage Auctions member? (Ha.com) Heritage has a great program that allows potential buyers to utilize the company's site to connect with past buyers who are willing to entertain offers on coins they've gotten in past Heritage sales. The price that the coin went for in the original sale is also listed. I picked up a nice Parthian tet a few years back through this program. I believe that Heritage takes no commission on these transactions either.

Anyway, I just logged on to the site, did a quick search on "Philip II stater" and, among the many coins from past sales that came up are a number that have the little blue tag indicating "Make an Offer to Owner" - this indicates that the owner of the coin has notified Heritage that they may be willing to sell their lots if the offer is right.

I have no time to look for Alexanders - I have to head to work. Also no time to check mints or copy the reverses - sorry. But these are among those listed by owners who take offers, below. Best wishes in your search!

- Bob

Thanks Bob L for your time and when I first saw this system used by Heritage it was rather innovative however the make an offer price on them is generally set at 25%+ what the coins initially sold for a year or two ago which you can not submit an offer below that price. Unfortunate but hopefully they will eventually fix this up.

However I will add that I may have found two fractions which I may be bidding on. I may make a seperate topic on them later tonight.
