I picked up some Fredericton tokens in a bulk buy. I already have all the nickel ones but this is different.
I know have two (well 5ish) 1981 Fredericton Trade dollars in 2x2s labeled with a label maker. One says "Fredericton 1981" one says "1981 (V)".

My Pelletier book says nothing on this and my buddy at the coin club left his "good" book home in Maine. He just had the checklist book.

After going over the tokens with my naked eye I do not know what the "v" is? The roman letter or the roman number? No spelling mistake, no finish difference. The coat of arms on the back of the V dollar has a scratch from being handled, is that it? I think it is "v" for variety or it may have been a lotto token.

Can someone tell me why one is labeled with a V?

Could it be a prize marked version (although I don't know why a V would signify that)?

That is what I was thinking when I asked if it could be a lotto token. I will bring it to the coin show Saturday down in my neck of the woods and see if anyone else knows.

Is out mutual aquantince coming down or is he off to Montreale

Nalaberong hasnčt been on in a wee bit, I bet he would know.

Is the Woodstock show tomorrow? Wish I could get there. I suspect Tom is going, but not 100% certain. Is the marking on the V token for the prize? I think it's a dot after Sept, according to my book.

Yup, show in Florencville. There looks like a stamp show is coming in April for Fredericton and a coin show in Saint John come May. I really am trying to get to the Saint John show. I forget his name, I will have to log on to Facebook and go through my messages, but I am a member of a token club on FB and I mentioned I am collecting Vichy France coins once. A guy from your club set me a Vichy France phone token and told me if I am ever down to give him a shout. I will have to grab a Woodstock trade token for him.

Back to the topic at hand I looked at Sept on both but no dot. I tore the label off the 2x2 and underneath it says "Fredericton V". The part that says "vallie $1" are the same so it isn't an actual V issue. This will drive me nuts. I know Tim Henderson is big into tokens, wrote a few books, I will ask him tomorow at the show.

May I ask what book you are using? I am using "Canadian Municipal Trade dollars" from unitrade press and it isn't often helpful.

Mine is the Standard Catalogue of Canadian Municipal Trade Tokens & Notes by Pelletier, but it's just the 1993 edition.

If I find out what the "v" means I will post the answer here.
If you do come across any lotto tokens, off strikes, silver etc. ATlantic trade tokens you could flip them to me for a quick profit. If you are talking to Tom could you mention that too. I pretty much have all the Saint John nickel ones though.
Thanks again, I am really starting to feel proud of this collection.

I will keep my eyes peeled. I'm pretty certain I don't have any lotto versions. I'm leaning toward making the trip tomorrow, it's only a little more than 2 hours and the weather doesn't look too bad, but it's been incredibly busy here, so I'm not positive I'll make it.

Well if you do make it it will be a pleasant surprise to meet you in the flesh. It is from 10-3 at the Florenceville Legion.
