I have posted this in a few places on the CCF, but now that I have good photos of it, I would like everyone's opinion as I am sending it off this week to PCGS

You might want to check ebay closed sales for these in PCGS and NGC. You will find lots of them in MS-65RB, which is how I grade your example. That should help you determine if it's really worth paying for the certification fee as opposed to what these sell for.

Unless it gets a MS-65 or better your cost of grading was not merited. EXCEPTION: You wanted it graded no matter what. And I don't think "Woodie" is an attribute used by the TPG's so they won't put on the slab. BTW, a very nice coin. I like it.

I am positive they don't attribute "woodie" I want to slab it because I love the way this coin looks... This will be added to my collection and probably won't ever be sold... By me...

It's not about the money for me, it's about preserving it and keeping it from getting damaged

To OP , looks like your mind is already made up. but if you just want to preserve it ,why not put it in an air-tight and save a lot of money.

An Eagle Brand holder or even a Safe-T would do the same thing for a lot less money. This is not such of an outstanding example that one would feel to spend a lot of money on preserving it. Many 1909-VDB cents were saved, and there are many of them in MS-65 Red or better.

Don't see this in a 65 holder.

Nice collectible example of a woody '09 vdb. You'll find, though, there are lots of these out there.

I'm not into woodies but this one looks like it was painted with a brush. pretty cool

Worth slabbing just for the toning & woodgrain, in my opinion, but I would have gone with ANACS or a lower cost option. The slab will protect against further degradation of the coin's surfaces, helping to preserve the already-existing unique pattern.

Very nice coin, MS-64 RB IMHO. You might want to take better pictures showing the luster, because I cant tell from here if theres any (so it might be cleaned, probably not though) Nice coin

I'm at MS64 RB on this one as well. Curious to see what PCGS says, these woodies are tough to grade from a static photo only.

great looking coin. if preservation is the goal and you cannot sonic seal yourself, than a TPG is the way to go.
