I have a few of the Shields now showing something I have not seen before - is it the beginning of a Die Crack?

Thanks for looking

Is that area raised or incuse? If it is incuse, it might be a contact mark on the coin. If it is raised, it might be die polishing that enhanced that area of the die.

So if you checked the three coins, you would probably find the same markers on all three? If they are different, please include the date and mint mark and we can see if this is a die issue or a master die issue?

Each coin each has these 3 additional chips and cracks

So now an image of the lower right shield area at a 90 degrees different angle might show us more as to what is going on there?

Thanks Pete, I actually had more but it wasn't until I kept finding them that it actually clicked that something new might be going on. These are always so riddled with chips and cracks that I don't pay a whole lot of attention to them. So I probably threw at least 5-10 back into the mix.

Will be interesting to see what coop says about them.

Looks like a bit of die abrasion that touched the inside part of the die leaving a mark on that area of the coins. I don't see it raised a lot. so it maybe just a slight disturbance on that die area.

I would save them for now. If nothing turns up later on, then put them back into circulation. But when something new is found, it maybe something that we might kick ourselves later for getting rid of.
