Back to upgrading the Wheat collection, found this and am interested in your thoughts on grade. I like to notate a grade on my spreadsheet, and don't trust myself as of yet.

Here is the coin:

Here is the coin it is replacing:

I appreciate your help and comments!

The one you want for the upgrade is far better than your old one .
A beauty , with underlying zinc luster . MS-65 .

Thanks TBop. To be clear, the new coin is already in the Dansco, the old one is in the "cull" tube.
Rest in Peace

Don , I wouldn't exactly call the old one a cull , that's still a decent circulated steelie. A young new comer would pay up to a dollar for it just because it's a 43.
Rest in Peace

I agree with T-Bop. The replacement is a beauty and is uncirculated with very few marks at all, so I think the MS-65 is a fair assessment.

Don't worry, that is why I had cull in quotations. I have given away 5 coins this week to girls I coach that show interest in the hobby. They will find a home!

That is a beaut! MS65! I'd say 66 if the luster is stronger than the pics show in hand! Very nice replacement!

rking and davis, the obverse holds it back. I graded it at MS 65, you can see the difference in luster in the pics, and unfortunately the obverse is weaker in hand as well. If the obverse had luster like the reverse, it could go 66 easy, IMHO.
