I found this 1889 which I have found the VAM 18A for. The thing that is throwing me off is the die chip in the first 8 in the date. I was wondering if anybody out there has one or has seen one that can verify the die chip in the date.

Here are pics of the coin.

And this is the die chip in the 8 on the date.

There is no mention of the die chip in the date on the VAMworld discription. Does anyone know if it is on other examples of this VAM?

NGiles, die chips are very common between the digits on the date. They sometimes make good markers for certian Vams but not always used for attribution. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, sometimes you just have to say it's a duck. Vam18A.
