Kanishka I the most famous of all the Kushan kings ruled a vast area of Northern India, Afghanstan, and Pakistan fron @127-152 AD.

Greek legend: King of Kings Kushan Kanishka
Reverse: Goddess Nana standing
Legend in Greek off flan: NANAIA
Knaiskha Tamgas, (monogram) along side.
This type was only struck during the first year of his reign.

Every Kushan King used a Tamgas or monogram. These Tamgas makes it easy for collectors to ID them. This is a sample of some of them. Notice how the one for Kanishka matches the one on the coin.

Very nice coin and thanks for posting. Any idea what Nana is holding? I'm sure it is something regal like a scepter, but the shape really reminds me of a femur (thigh bone). Also, is she nimbate?

She is holding a Protome of an animal.

Protome is a utensil or work of art depicting a frontal view of an animal or bust of a human.

cool ski, I always like to see a kushan!

i have a similar drachm or 1/4 unit of kanishka, you can barely see the NA NA on flan...

Thanks Chris, there are only a few of us here that like these along with Byzantine coins. Which in a way is good for us, but they are starting to get expensive.
